How does a healthy lifestyle increase life expectancy?

in Get Started with Your Forum

We are all looking for that magical fountain of youth. The longevity is based on two things: genetics and lifestyle. You can't control your genes, but there are other things you can do, and in an accessible way, to increase your chance of living longer.

    Keys to achieving longevity

Life expectancy can be increased with a few simple changes in your life and with basic steps. Let this guide help you discover some methods to increase longevity.

    1. Drink green tea

The green tea not only is full of antioxidants; it is also good for the heart. Research shows that drinking one cup each day can have a positive effect on your risk of death from heart disease.

    2. Keep your weight balanced

Being overweight and obese puts you at risk for cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and other conditions that could take years off your life. Staying fit and slim is one of the easiest methods to increase longevity.

    3. Eat healthy

There are nutrients in food that help add years to your life. Eat a well-balanced diet rich in fruits and vegetables and reduce sugar, fat, and salt.

    4. Do not smoke or drink alcohol in excess

Smoking causes lung disease and cancer. It also increases the risk of a heart attack. Stop smoking and avoid it at all costs.

    5. Take Vitamin D

Studies estimate that about fifty percent of adults have low blood levels of vitamin D. This is mainly from not going outside. Try to expose yourself to sunlight for at least 15 minutes each day for adequate vitamin D production.

    6. Exercise regularly

To stay healthy and strong, your body needs regular exercise. This is the best insurance against injuries and illnesses. Try to get at least 30 minutes of exercise three to four times a week.

    7. Socialize

Studies found that maintaining social connections prevents depression, boosts the immune system, and helps you live longer. Join a club, go out with friends more often and try to make healthy friendships with which you identify and make you feel fulfilled.

    8. Exercise the mind

One of the most important methods of increasing longevity is using your brain. Take up a new hobby, do crosswords, or learn a new language. The things that keep your mind engaged add years to life expectancy.

    9. Get married

There are numerous studies showing that married people live longer than single people. Therefore, getting married (and staying in it) is one of the methods to increase longevity if fully carried.

    10. Meditate

Develop anti-stress habits like meditation. This form of stress management removes stress hormones, relieves tension, and quiets your mind. Scientists found that meditation produces endorphins that lower blood pressure and slow heart rate. Meditate for at least 15 minutes each day for longevity.

    11. Laugh

A recent study from the University of Maryland found that 15 minutes of laughter a day can improve blood flow to the heart by approximately fifty percent. Therefore, laughter is the best medicine.

    12. Be more intimate with your partner

According to a 2010 report in the American Journal of Cardiology, an active intimate life is connected to longevity. This study found that those who have sex two to three times a week lower their risk of heart disease by 45 percent.

    13. Maintain patience

Recent research found that men who get angry frequently are twice as likely to have a stroke as those who control their anger. Be patient and calm in times of stress.

    14. Sleep time

One of the simplest methods to increase longevity is rest. A 2002 research report by the Scripps Center Sleep Clinic in California found that people who sleep between six and a half and seven and a half hours a night live longer.

    15. Get a pet

People who have pets are less depressed and lonely. They also get more exercise, which adds years to life expectancy. Adopt a dog or cat to love and care for, and extend your life.

There are many factors that can help you reach the goal of living longer, learn the key ways that could improve your health and make you live longer to complement this information.

Fiber is a special type of carbohydrate that's not broken down by the body, so eating it doesn’t have any effect on blood glucose levels. It also promotes digestive health and keeps you feeling fuller longer after a meal. Also, says Champion, because it slows the surge in blood sugar after a meal, it’s especially beneficial for people with diabetes.
